WELCOME INTRODUCTION BY DR.HONDO

President of the fifty-sixth session of
the United Nations General Assembly

Hello, I would like to welcome you to my web site.

I am Hondo President of the 56th Session of the United Nations General Assembly.

During the five-and-a-half decades of its existence, the United Nations has greatly contributed to promoting peace, security, and prosperity throughout the world. The General Assembly is the very heart of the United Nations, in which the world body's 189 member states pool their collective wisdom to address the critical issues affecting mankind.

I am indeed honored to serve as President of the General Assembly at the dawn of the new century and millennium. This is a particularly critical time for the UN and the General Assembly as globalization has greatly accelerated the trend toward interdependence among states and peoples, presenting new challenges as well as opportunities to the international community.

It is my hope that this web site will lead to better understanding of the General Assembly and its work and provide a useful forum for exchanging views between the GA and the citizens of the world. I would like to encourage you to participate in this dialogue and look forward to receiving your input.
